A SHORT FILM BY SUMNER MCMURTRY
When a seemingly innocent lemonade stand materializes in a suburban front yard, the once tranquil neighborhood descends into chaos as mysterious and unsettling events unfold.
PUCKER UP.
PUCKER UP.
A TALE SO SOUR.
The most pristine neighborhood you've ever seen. The kind of place that only exists in magazines. Flawlessly cared for lawns with grass like carpet. Homes like Mattel toys. It's perfected suburbia. That is until a not-so-innocent lemonade stand creates the perfect, ice-cold recipe for disaster.
From imaginative filmmaker, Sumner McMurtry, comes LEMON-AID, an acclaimed short film that continues to make a significant impact on the festival circuit with its unique, bold, and absurdist storytelling. This sixteen minute gem premiered at RiverRun International Film Festival and has since garnered numerous accolades, including Best Short at the prestigious RED Movie Awards in France, Best Costume Design at Headline Horizons Film Festival in Florida, and Best Direction at Absurd Film Festival in Italy. Its official selections at renowned festivals such as the Hudson Valley Film Fest and Hollywood Shorts Fest further underscore its critical success.
Sumner, a Nashville native and Lipscomb University alumnus, started with just a seed of an idea. One that was wacky and audaciously inventive. Drawing inspiration from Daisuke Tanabe’s album Cat Steps, Sumner, alongside his talented brother and production designer, Shel, and visionary Director of Photography, Athena Kulb, transformed a whimsical concept into a visually stunning and narratively compelling film. The film has been praised for its originality and creativity, some saying it pushes the boundaries of absurdist cinema.
Critics have celebrated the film’s distinctive style, with Headline Horizons Film Festival noting, "Sumner wowed us with a style that can only be described as 'freshly squeezed'. We had never seen anything like it before, and we haven’t seen anything like it since." Sumner’s unwavering dedication to his artistic vision, has resulted in a film that not only entertains but also surprises and delights audiences worldwide.
